Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Conch Labs LLC ("we", "us") collects and uses information when you use The Chonkerton. We aim to collect only what we need to make the Service work, and to be straightforward about what we do with it.

What we collect

Account info: the email address you sign up with, plus optional preferences (interest topics, narrator voice, opt-outs).
Listening history: which stories you've listened to and when, so the Service doesn't repeat content and can build a personalized feed.
Feedback: any thumbs-up/thumbs-down ratings or written/ voice feedback you submit. Voice feedback recordings are transcribed and immediately discarded; only the resulting text is retained.
Payment info (paid tier): handled by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full credit card number. Stripe sends us only an encrypted customer reference and your subscription status.
Operational logs: standard server logs including IP address and user agent, retained for security monitoring and rotated regularly.

What we don't collect

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for marketing purposes.
We do not store payment card details on our servers.

Analytics

We use privacy-respecting, first-party analytics to understand aggregate usage (such as page views and signups) without building advertising profiles. We may use limited third-party measurement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of our own marketing; where we do, we use only what is needed for attribution and never to sell or share your personal information. We do not embed third-party advertising trackers in the listening experience itself.

How we use information

To deliver and improve the Service (personalization, don't-rehash logic);
To communicate with you about your account (magic-link login emails, morning briefings if you've opted in, occasional product updates);
To investigate abuse and protect the Service's security and integrity;
To comply with legal obligations.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal information. If you choose a paid subscription, payment processing is handled by Stripe; we only receive the limited subscription information needed to keep your account active.

Voice recordings

If you provide voice-based onboarding or voice feedback, the recording is transcribed and the original audio file is discarded immediately. Only the text transcription is retained.

Your rights

You can:

Access or update your interest preferences from within the app at any time;
Opt out of marketing/morning emails from the account settings or via the unsubscribe link in any email;
Download a copy of your data, or permanently delete your account and associated data, directly from your account settings. If you'd prefer, you can also make either request by emailing [email protected].

Cookies and sessions

We use a single first-party session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.

Children

The Chonkerton is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the email address associated with your account.
