Fast-moving wildfire in southern France forces evacuations, burns homes in Var

A fast-moving wildfire tore through part of southern France on Sunday, forcing dozens of residents from their homes, France 24 reports. More than six hundred firefighters, supported by water-bombing aircraft, worked to contain the flames near Draguignan, in the Var region. Authorities say strong winds and dry vegetation drove the fire, which destroyed ten homes, damaged nine more, and left one firefighter slightly injured. The Var sits in France's Mediterranean south, a region where summer heat and wind regularly leave the landscape primed to burn.
