Andy Burnham to become new prime minister and lay out ‘10-year plan’ for the UK in No 10 speech – UK politics live
politics
Andy Burnham officially becomes Prime Minister of the United Kingdom today. He's replacing Keir Starmer, whose electoral standing had deteriorated to the point Labour needed a change. The Guardian notes that Burnham enjoys an unusual political advantage—he's popular with both the British public and within his own party, a combination rare at the top of Westminster politics. Later today, he'll be formally appointed and then deliver a speech from Number 10 laying out his ten-year plan for the country.
