Mexico Extends Its Venture Lead Over Brazil As More Global VCs Enter Latin America
business
Mexican startups are on a roll. In the second quarter, they raised nine hundred forty-four million dollars in venture funding—more than double last year's Q2 haul. That's the third consecutive quarter where Mexico has outpaced Brazil, which raised three hundred fifty million dollars. Crunchbase data shows that three of Latin America's five biggest fundraising rounds came from Mexico City: the payments startup Clip raised five hundred million dollars, the digital bank Plata took in four hundred five million dollars, and the used-car marketplace Kavak pulled down three hundred million dollars. Top Silicon Valley investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Founders Fund led many of the region's largest deals. Across Latin America, startups raised one point three-six billion dollars in Q2, up forty-seven percent year-over-year. Investors say AI is making a difference—startups can now hit major milestones with less capital than they used to need.
