US identifies soldiers killed in Iranian attack in Jordan after ninth night of strikes – Middle East crisis live

The Guardian (World) reports that the US military has identified the soldiers killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan, following a ninth consecutive night of American strikes on Iran. US Central Command says its forces targeted Iranian military command centers, air defenses, coastal surveillance and maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks, with the stated aim of reducing Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels in the strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon says it is holding Iran accountable at the direction of the Commander in Chief. Oil prices climbed in early Asian trading on Monday after the latest wave of strikes and reports from a maritime agency of a vessel on fire in the strait. Brent crude for September delivery rose two point seven two percent to ninety dollars and fifty cents a barrel, briefly crossing ninety-one dollars — its highest level since June. The strait of Hormuz is the narrow shipping channel through which a large share of the world's seaborne oil passes, which is why disruptions there move global energy markets so quickly.
