At least six dead after earthquake hits Peru's Andes

world

France 24 reports that a magnitude five point five earthquake has struck Peru's Andes, killing at least six people. More than thirty others were injured, according to local authorities. The toll was compounded by two factors: the region's rustic construction, and an epicenter that sat close to the surface, which concentrates shaking at ground level. Peru sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most seismically active zones on Earth.
