Heavy rains flood a Russian city’s only maternity hospital

world

Flooding has knocked out the only perinatal center in the Russian city of Kamensk-Uralsky, and investigators have opened a criminal negligence case, Meduza reports. Heavy rains swamped the city on the afternoon of July eighteenth, leaving streets deep enough that residents got around on paddleboards and inflatable boats, and the water breached the building's roof and got inside. Women in labor were temporarily sent to maternity hospitals in Yekaterinburg instead. Sverdlovsk region Health Minister Tatyana Savinova said Health Ministry officials would visit on July twenty-first to assess the repairs needed, the timeline, and the funding. The wider region has been battered by rain since late June, with more than two thousand private homes and household plots flooded as of July sixteenth.
