Old SSDs Find New Life as Game Cartridges

A Reddit maker has created a clever retro-gaming hybrid: physical cartridges containing old SSDs that connect to a gaming PC. Per Hackaday, the cartridges are three-D printed housings around two-point-five-inch solid-state drives, linked via a USB three-SATA adapter. There are two designs—a vertical stand and a horizontal version with springs for that satisfying insertion feel. Each drive runs a vetted launch script that the PC must approve, and the whole project is open-sourced on GitHub under MIT. The catch: SSDs only stay reliable if powered on regularly, so you'll want to rotate through your collection—storing cartridges unpowered will eventually fade the data.
