The Zilog Z80 has turned 50

The Zilog Z80 microprocessor is marking fifty years since its launch in nineteen seventy-six. According to Adafruit Blog, the chip became the standard processor for eight-bit personal computers, home computers, and industrial systems — it's the foundation that helped establish both C P M and early Microsoft BASIC as universal standards. The Z80's architecture was so influential that it inspired numerous variants and clones, most famously the processor powering the original Game Boy. Today, Zilog continues to develop Z80-based microcontrollers, including the eZ80, keeping the architecture alive in industrial and embedded applications decades later.
