A sweeping global study has found that antibiotic-resistant bacteria are increasingly leaving children exposed to once-treatable infections. The Guardian reports that the research spanned eighty-two countries and found resistance rose in every region between two thousand four and twenty twenty-two. The paper puts a human face on the trend through Harry Booth, a thirteen-year-old in Australia who has cycled in and out of hospital with chest and urinary tract infections his doctors find hard to treat — complicated by the immune-suppressing drugs that protect the kidney he received from his father. As resistance keeps spreading, the everyday infections medicine long took for granted grow harder to cure.
