Trump says Iran ‘will pay’ for killing soldiers ‘many times over’ after Pezeshkian says country fighting ‘full-scale war’ – Middle East crisis live

The conflict between the United States and Iran has sharpened into open confrontation. According to The Guardian, President Trump vowed that Iran will pay "many times over" for killing American service members, several of whom were killed in action over the weekend in Jordan, while Iranian President Pezeshkian described his country as fighting a full-scale war. The Guardian reports that CENTCOM's latest wave of strikes targeted Iranian military command centers, air defenses, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks, in what the U.S. military framed as an effort to blunt Iran's ability to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation rattled energy markets: Brent crude for September delivery climbed two point seven two percent to about ninety dollars and fifty cents a barrel, briefly crossing ninety-one dollars, its highest level since June, after a vessel caught fire in the strait.
