Per Adafruit Blog, engineer Mehran Toosi has developed the MSAP-2, an eight-bit discrete-logic computer that represents a major advance over his earlier prototype. Rather than using a traditional processor chip, this machine is built from discrete logic gates and control ROMs that execute variable-length instructions. The system includes eight kilobytes of address space split between an operating-system ROM and user RAM, plus a hardware stack, vectored interrupts, serial console, and SD-card storage—making it a fully programmable computer that operates entirely from its own terminal. The project is nearing the fabrication stage, with PCB routing and schematic capture in KiCad still to come. A detailed simulator is available online for exploring the design.
