US military launches further strikes on Iran after Trump says Tehran ‘will pay’ for killing soldiers – Middle East crisis live

world

The Guardian reports that the U.S. military has launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran, with President Trump vowing that Tehran 'will pay' for the deaths of American troops. According to U.S. Central Command, the assault targeted Iranian military command centers, air defenses, coastal surveillance sites, and missile and drone launch positions, part of an effort to blunt Iran's ability to threaten commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation rattled energy markets: Brent crude for September delivery climbed two point seven two percent to about ninety dollars and fifty cents a barrel in early Asian trading Monday, briefly topping ninety-one dollars for its highest level since June, after a vessel caught fire in the strait. Even so, diplomats say talks between the two sides remain ongoing.
