AT&T loses key ruling in bid to stop offering basic phone service in California

A federal judge has rejected AT&T's bid to stop offering basic phone service in California. The company sued the state in May, challenging a rule that requires it to serve any new customer in its service territory—what's called the Carrier of Last Resort requirement. Judge Linda Lopez denied AT&T's request for a preliminary injunction on Thursday, per Ars Technica, meaning AT&T must continue complying while the lawsuit proceeds.
