Cyclospora investigation still points to recalled lettuce, FDA says

An FDA investigation into a Cyclospora outbreak affecting at least sixteen hundred forty-four Americans still points to Taylor Farms lettuce from central Mexico. Though test results flagged the produce as positive over the weekend, the FDA walked that back on Monday as a false positive—but according to Axios, broader traceback and epidemiologic evidence continues to support the recall of shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms locations in central Mexico. The CDC is still advising people to avoid recalled products, including at Taco Bell, which removed the affected lettuce from its restaurants. Health officials say tracking Cyclospora is particularly challenging because of fresh produce's short shelf-life and the lengthy incubation period before symptoms appear.
