Australia news live: Shorten sees ‘national appetite’ for a new gas tax; Watt calls on Hanson to reveal Europe trip funding

politics

Australian Labor is grappling with One Nation's electoral surge. New South Wales premier Chris Minns told ABC Radio National the party faces a serious threat as voters migrate to Pauline Hanson's movement. Minns said while not all One Nation supporters are racist, some of Hanson's statements—such as her claim there's no such thing as a good Muslim—clearly are. The federal Environment and Water Minister is pressing Hanson to reveal who funded her European travels. Per The Guardian, Labor is now considering what officials describe as "practical commonsense" policy changes to regain lost ground.
