Climate researcher François Gemenne tells France twenty-four that France's latest heatwave is exposing a dangerous cycle: the country treats climate change as a crisis only during heat waves, then largely forgets about it once temperatures fall. Gemenne says France needs two urgent fixes: major renovations to improve building insulation and thermal efficiency, and a rethinking of its aversion to air conditioning. Without these changes, he suggests, the country will be caught unprepared each time extreme heat returns.
