World Cup final breaks viewership records

business

Spain's victory over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final attracted more than sixty-two point eight million U.S. viewers, making it the most-watched World Cup final and soccer telecast in American history. According to Axios, Fox's English-language broadcast drew nearly thirty-nine million viewers, jumping one hundred thirty-two percent from the 2022 final—while Telemundo's Spanish-language coverage reached nearly twenty-four million, up one hundred sixty-six percent from 2022. The tournament's boom extended beyond live TV: streaming was crucial, with Fox One adding two point eight million new subscribers in June, more than two point five times its previous monthly record, and Peacock recording three point seventy-five million U.S. sign-ups the same month. Axios reports that for 2030, FIFA will likely sell English- and Spanish-language U.S. media rights as a single package, with Netflix, Disney, and YouTube among the bidders—a competitive process expected to significantly raise the deal's value.
