Mamdani says New York City does not have legal authority to arrest Netanyahu

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani acknowledged on Tuesday that his city lacks the legal authority to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu, despite an International Criminal Court warrant for the Israeli prime minister. The Guardian reports that Mamdani, who had previously said he was reviewing whether NYC could execute the warrant, is now calling on US federal authorities to make the arrest if Netanyahu visits the US later this year. In a social media video, Mamdani called Netanyahu a 'war criminal' and the 'architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people.'
