Wildfire in southern France 'contained' after hundreds evacuated from homes

world

A fast-moving wildfire in southern France is now contained, though hot spots are still burning, France 24 reports. Regional fire chief Eric Grohin said Wednesday that the blaze had swept through roughly two thousand five hundred fifty hectares. Nearly one thousand firefighters, backed by dozens of aircraft, fought the fire on Tuesday after the flames pushed hundreds of residents out of their homes. Containment means crews have a perimeter around the fire, not that it is out.
