Zelensky appoints Mykhailo Drapatyi as Ukraine’s new commander-in-chief, dismissing Oleksandr Syrskyi

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi. Per Meduza, the move follows the Defense Minister's dismissal, which sparked nationwide protests calling for military reforms. Drapatyi previously led the Ground Forces before resigning last year after a Russian missile strike killed twelve servicemembers and wounded more than sixty—he said he took personal responsibility. He was subsequently reappointed to lead the Joint Forces. Syrskyi noted in his dismissal statement that the military is now on the offensive with the structure and initiative to continue operations.
