[Paper] Stringological sequence prediction II

Researcher Vanessa Kosoy has published a paper advancing theoretical foundations for sequence prediction algorithms, per LessWrong. The work compares two different approaches—reading sequences from left to right versus right to left—and finds they behave quite differently for prediction purposes. Kosoy also introduces a new complexity measure called 'arithmetic repetition complexity' that can handle more expressive sequences. The discovery that this measure connects to her earlier theoretical work on decision-making processes, despite arising from entirely different mathematical foundations, suggests the insights may point to something deeper about how learning systems work.
