Trump administration says 15 agencies will get $5bn in ‘AI for science’ effort

The Trump administration announced a five billion dollar initiative to deploy AI across scientific research, The Guardian reports. Fifteen federal agencies will receive funding to tackle longstanding problems—identifying causes of chronic diseases, accelerating drug discovery, and developing more durable building materials. Scientists will gain access to Department of Energy supercomputers, AI tools, and specialized datasets. Michael Kratsios, the administration's chief technology adviser, said the funding represents a shift in how the federal government prioritizes research, emphasizing individual scientists and AI approaches.
