Europe’s heatwave in June cost grain farmers €2bn in lost revenue and crop damage

Europe's June heatwave has taken a significant toll on the continent's grain farmers. According to Coceral, the European association representing cereals and oilseeds trade, the heat destroyed ten million tonnes of crops and cost farmers an estimated two billion euros in lost revenue. The European harvest of wheat, barley, maize, and oats is now predicted to fall nine million tonnes short of pre-heatwave forecasts, putting the EU on track for its worst crop harvest in a decade. The shortfall is raising concerns about potential impacts on food prices across the continent.
