Two Caltech Projects Selected for DOE Funding as Part of Genesis Mission

The U.S. Department of Energy has selected two Caltech-led research projects for funding through the Genesis Mission, a national initiative designed to harness artificial intelligence for accelerating scientific discovery. According to Caltech News, the first project will develop what's being called a self-driving electrochemical lab—an AI-automated system for advanced chemical manufacturing that can explore vastly more reaction conditions than researchers could manually, potentially transforming how we produce chemicals. The second project will use AI to model how microorganisms interact and behave in their natural environments, something that's been nearly impossible using traditional laboratory methods where most microbes can't even be cultured. Together, these projects exemplify a broader push to tackle scientific questions previously deemed too labor-intensive or computationally expensive to address.
