Burnham to review prison early release scheme amid PC Andrew Harper family concerns

The Guardian reports that plans to release some killers, rapists and sex offenders early from prison in September are now set to be reviewed. Speaking on Wednesday, Andy Burnham said the move follows a backlash from bereaved families and victims' organisations. The prime minister, the paper adds, wants to make sure everything has been looked at again before a fresh tranche of about six thousand offenders is freed on tags into the community.
