Drug gang threats force French police to put southern mayor under protection

French authorities removed the mayor of Alès from his home at night following death threats, France 24 reports. Christophe Rivenq had been targeted by the DZ Mafia gang, a Marseille-based crime organization that has grown to become one of France's main security threats. Officials said an elite police unit conducted the emergency removal amid fears of an imminent attack.
