"No one cares": The DSA primary challenge House Democrats are happy to ignore

Michigan Representative Shri Thanedar faces an August fourth primary against Donavan McKinney, backed by the Democratic Socialists of America. Unlike recent DSA-backed upsets in New York and Colorado, House Democrats aren't treating this as a watershed establishment-versus-DSA fight. Per Axios, colleagues see it as unique to Detroit—a city with a large African American population but no Black members of Congress—and to Thanedar's isolated standing within the caucus. He broke with leadership over Trump impeachment efforts and is widely characterized as eccentric and not a team player. Leadership endorsed him anyway, following standard practice for incumbents, but the sentiment is clear: House Democrats simply don't care if he loses.
