Sex trafficking in fashion: 'Outrageous that French legal system hasn't done anything by now'

world

France 24 has broadcast an interview with Dana Thomas, a Paris-based journalist who covers fashion and culture and wrote the book Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster. Speaking with host Francois Picard, Thomas said allegations of sexual exploitation in the fashion industry have surfaced again and again over decades, and across the globe, often clustering around powerful figures whose deaths have made any real accountability harder to reach. In the wake of the sudden death of Daniel Siad, she offered a blistering assessment of what she described as systemic failure, pointing at French law enforcement, the modelling industry, and the highest levels of power alike. Her argument, as she puts it to France 24, is that the problem is structural rather than a matter of isolated bad actors.
