Australia is conducting the first nationwide test of AusAlert, a new national emergency warning system. On July twenty-seventh at two PM Australian time, most phones, smartwatches, and tablets will receive an alert that cannot be silenced—even if the device is on do-not-disturb or silent mode. The Guardian reports the system is designed to reach virtually every mobile device in the country.
