Orcas seen ramming prey so hard it explodes may be playing game

science

Per The Guardian, scientists have observed orcas ramming giant sunfish with such force that the prey explodes into fragments. In these encounters, one whale holds the already-killed fish in its jaws while another strikes at high speed, shattering it. Researchers believe the behavior represents a form of play or entertainment—and possibly a teaching method for younger whales learning to hunt.
