Palestine Action trial lawyer’s prosecution criticised as ‘chilling’ for profession
politics
A prominent human rights barrister faces trial next week on contempt of court charges related to his closing statement at a trial involving Palestine Action activists. Per The Guardian, Rajiv Menon KC allegedly breached judicial directions during proceedings against six people charged in connection with a twenty twenty-four protest at an arms factory owned by an Israeli subsidiary in Filton, near Bristol. The Criminal Bar Association chair says the prosecution has alarmed lawyers across the profession, warning it creates a chilling effect on their ability to represent clients. The case raises questions about the boundaries of legal advocacy in courtroom settings.
