EU agrees on 21st package of sanctions against Russia

politics

The European Union has approved a twenty-first sanctions package against Russia, Meduza reports. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the package bans transactions with thirty-two Russian banks, imposes restrictions on cryptocurrency and oil trading platforms, and freezes the price cap on Russian oil, currently set at forty-four dollars and ten cents per barrel. The EU also restricted vessels assisting Russia's shadow fleet and is moving toward banning Russian combatants from the bloc. The package includes a twelve-month exemption allowing Russian liquefied natural gas shipments to third countries—a concession meant to show solidarity with Greece, which had previously blocked the sanctions to protect its shipping industry.
