China and the West are taking opposite paths on EV battery recycling

tech

According to Rest of World, China and the U.S. are moving in opposite directions on EV battery recycling. China, which controls eighty-five percent of global recycling capacity, has mandated the rapid shredding of spent batteries to recover materials for new packs. The U.S. is charting a different course: repurposing older batteries as grid energy storage before final recycling. The split reflects divergent priorities—China focuses on supply security; America on grid stability.
