US senator accuses Barclays of ‘failure’ to investigate ex-CEO’s ties to Epstein
business
The Guardian reports that US Senator Elizabeth Warren is pressing Barclays for answers over what she calls an apparent failure to meaningfully investigate ties between the bank's former chief executive, Jes Staley, and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a private letter to Barclays chair Nigel Higgins, Warren — the most senior Democrat on the Senate banking committee — said it was deeply unclear how the bank, supposedly probing Staley's connection to Epstein, failed to uncover what she described as a decades-long relationship. The pointed demand keeps scrutiny on how one of Britain's biggest banks vetted its own leadership.
