LessWrong has published a short story by Tomás B. titled "Duane Arnold." Framed as a diary addressed to an absent ex-lover, it follows a woman coming apart in San Francisco as she becomes convinced that the most brilliant people in her tech social circle — including the boyfriend who very publicly quit the startup Humane — have all quietly disappeared, seemingly pulled into some secretive project. Her paranoid amateur detective work, LessWrong's telling goes, leads to a single cryptic clue, the name Duane Arnold, which she finally traces not to a person but to a nuclear power plant that was supposedly decommissioned the year before.
