Lightcone Commons

business

Habryka, writing on LessWrong, is launching Lightcone Commons, a new platform designed to help major philanthropists distribute donations more effectively. The system connects donors giving at least one hundred thousand dollars annually with expert evaluators who identify and vet grant opportunities across a broad range of causes. When multiple funders want to support the same project, an algorithm automatically splits costs proportionally based on each donor's total budget. The first funding round is accepting applications through August twenty-second, with recommendations announced by October twenty-second. Participating funders have committed between fifteen and twenty-five million dollars, including contributions from Jaan Tallinn and Dustin Moskovitz. The platform charges a combined five percent fee—three percent for platform operations and two percent to evaluators—and plans funding cycles every three months.
