Southern California suburb alarmed as ‘exceptionally rare’ cancer sickens multiple children

Residents of a Southern California suburb are alarmed after a cluster of rare cancer cases among local children. The Guardian reports that six children in Ladera Ranch, an Orange County community of about twenty-six thousand people, have been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, an exceptionally rare cancer that typically affects the bones or surrounding soft tissue. The disclosure came from Katrina Foley, vice-chair of the county board of supervisors, in a statement, as families in the neighborhood voice growing concern about what is behind the cases.
