Cyclosporiasis: Case rates rise in five outbreak states

Axios reports the U.S. is experiencing its worst cyclosporiasis outbreak on record. The CDC has confirmed just over four thousand cases of this parasitic infection between May and late July—already surpassing the entire 2025 total. Five states are in outbreak status, with Michigan hardest hit by an estimated fifteen infections per one hundred thousand people. Contaminated iceberg lettuce is suspected as the source. Though cyclosporiasis cases occur naturally each year, the concentration and scale of this outbreak have health officials watching closely; actual case counts are likely higher than reported, given delays in testing and lab confirmation.
