Pentagon list of service members killed in Iran war removes most recent four

The Pentagon's official casualty count for its war with Iran is drawing scrutiny for what it leaves out. The Guardian reports that four service members who died over the weekend during renewed fighting are absent from the military's online list, even though the Pentagon had named them in a Wednesday press release about the transfer of their remains back to the United States. According to the Defense Casualty Analysis System, the toll from Operation Epic Fury — the Pentagon's name for the US-Israeli campaign against Iran that President Trump launched on February twenty-eighth — stands at fourteen, a figure that fell from eighteen on Wednesday to fourteen on Thursday and has not moved since. The discrepancy means the four most recently fallen soldiers are, for now, uncounted in the government's public record of the war.
