The Guardian reports that Edmund Rice Education Australia has agreed to help fully compensate survivors of abuse committed by the Christian Brothers, a stunning reversal after weeks of public pressure. The Catholic order, which has a long history of clergy abuse, said last month that it was going broke and could not afford to meet civil claims from survivors. The Guardian notes that Edmund Rice Education Australia, which received much of the order's vast property holdings, can now be sued over that abuse.
