Urgent need for more security after physical attacks and abuse, say MPs’ staff

politics

Staff working for British MPs are demanding tighter security after some were physically attacked and hundreds received threatening calls and messages. The Guardian reports on an exclusive Westminster survey of more than five hundred staffers, which found that seventy-eight percent had received threatening communication, and nearly one in three now fear for their own safety or that of their colleagues. The same survey found one in two staff experiencing clinical levels of psychological distress. The findings put fresh pressure on Parliament over how it protects the people who keep MPs' offices running.
