Early humans were bringing fire into caves 1.8 million years ago
science
According to new research published by ScienceDaily, early humans were maintaining fire in South Africa's Wonderwerk Cave as far back as one point seven nine million years ago. Scientists discovered burned bones deep within the cave where natural wildfires could not have reached—suggesting human ancestors deliberately carried and tended the flames. The finding significantly pushes back the known timeline for fire use and reveals that our ancestors possessed surprisingly sophisticated behavior long before they could create fire on demand.
