France evacuates Cap Ferret peninsula and Spain’s Sanchez warns of ‘dramatic situation’ as wildfires spread – Europe live

world

France has ordered the evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula as wildfires spread across Europe, The Guardian reports. Residents were told to leave by the single road linking the area to the mainland or by one of the hundreds of boats mobilized for the effort. It's not only the country's south-west that's burning — fires fanned by the mistral wind have flared around the historic village of Cotignac in the south-east, where officials say around twenty-five houses have been destroyed since Tuesday. In neighboring Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned of a dramatic situation as the blazes advance.
