New York Chinatown fears impact of $8bn casino development, calling it ‘predatory project’

Residents in this working-class immigrant neighborhood fear the project will displace thousands of renters, drive up rents, and force family-run businesses to shutter. Jack Hu, a Flushing resident and organizer with the No Casino in Flushing Meadows Corona Park campaign, says locals feel sidelined: 'A predatory project is being dumped in our community that disproportionately harms our people.' Developers have promised jobs, but many residents say the project advanced without their consent.
