Burnham urged to award £2.4bn military satellite contract to Airbus over US rival

business

One of Labour's biggest union backers is weighing in on a major UK military satellite contract. Sharon Graham, general secretary of the Unite union, is calling for the government to award a two point four billion pound contract to Airbus rather than American rival Lockheed Martin, according to The Guardian. Airbus manufactures satellites in Stevenage and Portsmouth in the UK, while up to six hundred jobs could be at risk if Lockheed Martin wins the bid. Graham said awarding the contract to the American company would be a 'massive mistake' for British manufacturing.
