A new antiviral could stop measles before an outbreak takes off

A new experimental antiviral pill prevented a measles-like virus from spreading among ferrets, ScienceDaily reports. The drug worked when given shortly before or after exposure and also shortened both the illness duration and the period when infected animals remained contagious. Scientists say the medication could one day complement vaccination and make measles outbreaks easier to contain.
