Tuam Railway Station in Tuam, Ireland

Atlas Obscura reports on Tuam Railway Station in western Ireland, which opened in eighteen sixty as a key hub on the Waterford, Limerick and Western Railway. Passenger trains stopped coming in nineteen seventy-six during a nationwide railway rationalization, with freight service ending in nineteen ninety-three. The station has stood largely unused since, yet its Victorian buildings remain remarkably preserved—including the wrought-iron lattice footbridge, platform canopies, and water tower—making it one of Ireland's most complete surviving historic railway stations. Restoration proposals have emerged as part of the Western Rail Corridor project, though the station remains closed today.
