Lee Chang-dong on His Eight-Year Gap Before Venice-Bound ‘Possible Love’ and MIFFest Lifetime Achievement Honor: ‘Thanks to Cinema, I Feel Connected to Something Much Bigger’

At the Malaysia International Film Festival, acclaimed Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong received a Lifetime Achievement Award — eight years after his last feature, 'Burning.' He's now returning with 'Possible Love,' premiering in competition at Venice, and told Variety the long gap was never about stepping away from cinema. 'Thanks to cinema,' he said, 'I feel connected to something much bigger.'
