E-ink Writing Deck Rocks a Typewriter Aesthetic

tech

Per Hackaday, a maker has built an e-ink writing device styled after a vintage typewriter. The build features a mechanical keyboard with custom 3-D-printed keycaps marked using a clever paint-and-laser technique, and a 3-D-printed shell assembled with acetone welds. A Raspberry Pi Zero powers a Waveshare e-ink display that cranks up and down like paper rolling through a typewriter, paired with a seven-segment display that tracks word count — making this aesthetic device genuinely practical for long-form writing.
